Sandeep is the Chief Executive Officer of J.Walter Thompson Sub Saharan Africa and the WPP Scangroup. In his current role, he has led culture change in the organisation and enhanced product offering. Mathias Katamba, Chief Executive Officer, DFCU Bank

Mr. Mathias Katamba is the Chief Executive of dfcu Bank. Prior to joining dfcu, he was the Managing Director of Housing Finance Bank for 5 years during which he led the bank through a major transformation in its digital offering, customer experience and turnaround in financial performance. Before that he was Co-founder and Managing Partner of Progression Capital Africa a Private Equity Fund based in Mauritius set up to provide capital and technical support to microfinance institutions in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Zambia.

 In a banking career spanning 2 decades, he previously held various positions at Orient Bank Limited, Post Bank Uganda, Barclays Africa, Pride Uganda, Finance Trust and Pride Microfinance Limited where he was instrumental in its transformation from an NGO into a Microfinance Deposit – Taking Institution

 He has previously served as the Chairman/National President of the Association of Microfinance Institutions in Uganda (AMFIU), Member of the Investment Committee of the Deutsche Bank Global Commercial Microfinance Consortium, Member of the Steering Committee for Client Protection (SMART Campaign) at the Center for Financial inclusion and Director at the Private Sector Foundation in Uganda.



Lyn Mengich, Chairperson, Salaries and Remuneration Commission

Lyn Mengich is a HR professional and Business leader with over 25 years cross– industry experience in    Kenya, East Africa Region and Africa.  Her experience spans public, public traded and private sector organizations.  Highlights of her experience include; Chairperson Salaries and Remuneration commission, CEO Nuevo Consulting, HR Director Barclays Bank, HR Director Kenya Commercial Bank, Talent Manager Shell oil products Africa, Change Manager Shell Oil Products, Regional HR Manager Shell East Africa, HR Director for Smith Kline Beecham and Talent and Development Manager Unilever She has also held Board positions at Jamii Bora Bank, NSSF and Sovereign Group. She also  previously  served as the Vice Chair of  Kenya  Institute of  Bankers. Lyn is a fellow of the institute of Human Resource Management Kenya.

Edna Malavonek, Head Of Human Resources, Aggreko

Edna leads the People function for Aggreko in Africa - a world-leading provider of mobile modular power, temperature control and energy services with over 900 people across 30 African countries. Edna enjoys the partnership with the business in delivering its long-term plans, through a successful People strategy.

Edna has an extensive career in HR, over 10 years working in the Oil& Gas Industry for BP in Africa (Angola) with over 1000 people and a massive offshore operation. Edna’s experience covers various areas within HR, from specialism such as Reward, Global Mobility to Senior Business Partner. Edna led a successful multi-year nationalization plan with significant growth of local talent.

Edna joined Aggreko in 2018 and its leading the People agenda focusing in developing African talent and improving its representation in the Region, as well as transforming the Leadership culture in Africa.

John Lewis, Chief Executive Officer, Aggreko

John runs the African business for Aggreko. Over 900 people across 30 African countries providing power solutions to utilities, industrials and mines amongst others is what keeps john busy.  John’s career spans infrastructure business across the globe, from telecoms to power, and from Europe to Australia including organizations such as Cable & Wireless, Macquarie bank, MTN and now Aggreko. John joined Aggreko in 2018 and is leading the transformation of the African business, both in terms of its solutions to the market, but also focusing on developing African talent so that Aggreko reflects more the markets it serves.


Margarete Ciuk, Occupational Psychologist - Willis Tower Watson

Margarete is a Director at Willis Towers Watson’s Employee Insight Practice in London where she is striving to increase organisational effectiveness using strategic processes that focus on enhancing the Employee Experience and organisational performance.


Maragret has over 10 years’ experience in different HR practices and specialises in Talent Management, Leadership Development and Change Management.


 In current her role at Willis Tower Watson, Maragret is developing employee listening strategies and designing employee experience surveys and research projects for some of the world’s largest organisations. She also supports their leadership teams in the analysis of survey results and in the prioritisation of actions to improve their business performance through their people.

Sammy Chepkwony, Human Resources Director, East Africa - Aga Khan University Hospital

Sammy Chepkwony has extensive, diversified and hands-on experience in all areas of Human Resources Management and Organizational Development. He has reviewed and improved the effectiveness of numerous private and public organizations, established and restructured complete Human Resources functions for several large organizations across East Africa while working for PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Currently a Director at PeopleCentric, Sammy has been HR Director for organisations such as Kenya Airways PLC, Tata Chemicals Magadi Ltd, James Finlay Kenya Ltd, Magadi Soda Company and Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Nairobi (Nairobi Bottlers Ltd).
A graduate of the University of Nairobi (both undergraduate and postgraduate), he is a Fellow of the Institute of Human Resources Management and a Member of the Institute of Directors. He has attended numerous courses locally and overseas on leadership, human resources and business management. He has also been a speaker in various conferences and seminars.

Bryan Sun, Managing Director, East and South Africa – Nielsen

Bryan Sun currently serves as Managing Director at Nielsen, where he is responsible for leading the South, East, and West Africa businesses. He has extensive experience in the consumer goods industry, gained from working in many diverse, international markets and at a major global retailer.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Sun has served in numerous roles across Africa, most recently as Senior Vice President: Africa Operations, Managing Director: Africa Client Service Commercial Operations, and before that, as Managing Director: Sub-Saharan Africa (excluding Nigeria).  Since joining Nielsen in 2007, Mr. Sun has worked across global markets and brands across Africa, the Middle East, Central Eastern Europe and Greater China, as well as serving as the lead for Nielsen’s regional relationship with Unilever Asia.  Prior to Nielsen, Mr. Sun worked for Carrefour China. 

He holds an MBA from University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and a BA from Bucknell University. He speaks native English and conversational Chinese

Angela Gachui, Africa Talent Manager - Dalberg

Angela is responsible for 8 locations, where she provides oversight on matters related to the articulation and implementation of a regional talent management strategy that is driven by the firm’s mission, vision and values; Angela also coaches, guides and provides thought partnership to in-country HR teams, Partners, Managers and staff as they experience the employee lifecycle. With 17 offices; 8 in Africa, diversity and inclusion is central to Dalberg’s mission; and ensuring this value is upheld is central to Angela’s role.

Prior to joining Dalberg, Angela established and ran her own boutique strategy and talent management advisory firm, Triple Bottom Line Associates, and had a number of HR/Talent focused roles at Seven Seas Technologies, PricewaterhouseCoopers Kenya and Mars Canada (– yes! The chocolate people!)

Angela holds an MPA with a focus on International Policy and Management, from New York University - Wagner School of Public Service and a B.A (Hons) in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.

Angie Garcia-Forner, Director Consultant Coach, Garcia Forner Consulting

Angie is the Founder and Director of Garcia Forner Consulting Ltd, a company dedicated to helping individuals and organisations unleash their potential and generate the impact they want to see through strategic and transformational Human Resource and Coaching services. Some of Angie’s consulting clients have included organisations like MP Shah and Jambopay.

Prior to her company, Angie’s had over 14 years of HR generalist and recruitment specialist experience in financial services industry in London, in diverse UK and EMEA wide roles. Her experience in Banking extends across different organisations including Citi and Credit Suisse.

At Citi, she rose up to the role of EMEA HR Business Partner, Corporate & Investment Banking where held EMEA wide accountability HR positions supporting up to 55 countries across Europe, Middle East & Africa. Previously, she has held several positions at UBS Investment Bank and Credit Suisse across Graduate and Professional Recruitment managing the recruitment strategy, operations and teams recruiting for revenue generating functions.

Prior to working in the private sector, Angie served two years as fulltime Director of AIESEC International and President of AIESEC in Spain. 

Matthew McDonnell, Senior Consultant, Willis Towers Watson

Matthew is a Senior Consultant in Towers Watson’s Organisational Surveys and Insights Practice, based in London. He has been with the firm for 15 years, and has designed and implemented employee engagement and culture research projects across a range of major global organisations across retail, FMCG, Finance, Media, Mining sectors.  He has in depth experience helping them identify and prioritise actions to improve their business performance through their people.

He has also worked on several survey engagements across Africa presenting results and working with local management teams in a variety of markets to understand some of the organisational challenges they have and implement action plans following employee survey results

Matthew is a chartered Occupational Psychologist. 

Benthe Legg, Africa Regional HR Director - Maersk Line

Benthe is the Africa regional HR director of Maersk  Line. She has vast experience in HR and her experience encompasses all aspects of Human Resource Management, HR Business Partnering with a regional outlook , day-to-day support to the Cluster Tops, Cluster HR Managers as well as global and region specific initiatives.

Education-wise, Benthe has excelled. She gained her Bachelor of Science (cum laude)  in Mathematics, Statistics and Psychology and has attended several executive education courses  including the Executive Leadership Development Programme, Wits Business School, HR Strategy in the Business, IMD,Human Resources Learning Programme (HRLP), The RBL Group.

Her professional interests include psychology and counselling. She has also worked in and headed up major change initiatives in Compensation and Benefits, Talent Development, Learning and Industrial Relations besides working as HR Business Partner in various roles at Shell.

In her free time, Benthe enjoys hiking, baking and  reading.

James Mworia, Group CEO & Managing Director, CENTUM INVESTMENTS

James Mworia is the Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Centum Investment Company Limited, a position he has held since 2008.  Centum is the largest listed investment company in East Africa, with direct and third party assets under management of approximately USD 1.8 billion. The Group’s primary focus is on the development of investment grade assets of scale across key sectors of the economy, including real estate, power, financial services, agribusiness, education and healthcare, amongst others. During James’ tenure as CEO, the Group’s net asset value has increased sevenfold.

James is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Chartered Financial Analyst Charter Holder, a Chartered Global Management Accountant, a Fellow of the Kenyan Institute of Management and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. He is also a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, and an Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellow.

James serves on the boards of several organisations, including Sidian Bank, where he is the Chairman of the board, Nairobi Securities Exchange, Nairobi Bottlers Limited, General Motors East Africa Limited and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

James has received numerous awards in his career to date, including East Africa Business Leader of Year 2015 at the All Africa Business Leaders Awards, the Corporate Council for Africa, Africa Business Leader of the Year 2014 and the Africa Young Business Leader of the Year 2011 at the Africa Business Leaders Awards.

James is passionate about leadership and entrepreneurship, and is a mentor to many emerging business leaders and entrepreneurs.

Alban Mwendar, HR Director - Great Lions Limited

Alban is a Partner at Great Lions Ltd, a Kenya registered People and Change Consultancy. He has 30 years of practical HR experience in senior leadership roles with leading global multinationals, including Unilever Plc where he joined as a Management Trainee and rose through the ranks over an 8 year period, and British American Tobacco Plc for 5 years as Head of Human Resources in Kenya. He has also worked as Group HR Director for Kenya Commercial Bank, East African Breweries Ltd. (a subsidiary of Diageo Plc) and Kenya Airways Ltd. for a combined period of 15 years. Alban has hands-on industry experience having been an HR practitioner over 30 years in different sectors and covering the entire scope of HR activities.

He has a B. Ed. Degree and an MBA both from University of Nairobi, and a Practitioners Diploma in Executive Coaching from the Academy of Executive Coaching (UK) and a Certificate in Systemic Team Coaching from the same organisation.
