Mbuvi Ngunze, CEO & Group Managing Director, KENYA AIRWAYS

Mbuvi holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree accounting option from the University of Nairobi. He is a Chartered Accountant (England and Wales) and is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Management Development Program (PMD75). He joined Price Waterhouse in Nairobi in 1990 and was seconded to Manchester in the United Kingdom where he was articled. In the UK, he started off as an Audit Assistant and left 5 years later as an Assistant Manager. In 1995, he rejoined Price Waterhouse in Kenya as Audit Manager, leading audits of various blue chip companies, and also involved in training and recruitment.

In 1998, he joined Bamburi Cement (a Lafarge subsidiary) as Finance Manager and was promoted to the Finance Director’s position in February 1999. He held this position up to March 2002 when he was appointed Managing Director Hima Cement Uganda (Lafarge). In May 2006, he moved to the headquarters of Lafarge in Paris. He first took up the role of Mission Director in the Group Audit Department for six months, and then was appointed Group Vice President Internal Communications in November 2006. In March 2009, he was appointed General Manager for Lafarge’s operations in Tanzania (Mbeya Cement). He joined KQ in September 2011 as Chief Operating Officer and took over as Group Managing Director & CEO in November 2014

He is currently a Chairman of Executive Committee of African Airlines Association (AFRAA) ,  Chairman of Kenya Association of Airline Operators, a Board member of JamboJet Limited, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Precision Air and member of Board of Governors of IATA.

Yida Kemoli, Senior Partner-East Africa, PHATISA

Prior to joining Trans-Century, Yida began his career at J.P. Morgan’s European Debt Capital Markets business where he was involved in more than 20 transactions across the leveraged buyout and structured products spaces – and then moved to Actis where he was part of the Africa team. Additionally, he advised Aureos (now part of Abraaj) on the structuring and establishment of their Aureos Africa Healthcare Fund.

Yida is well experienced in all facets of investment banking, corporate finance and private equity. In private equity in Africa he has closed more than 10 transactions – both acquisitions and disposals – and has been active in portfolio management, including support on strategy and fundraising. Additionally, between 2010 and 2013 he was appointed by the Kenya National Treasury as a non-executive director of the Kenya Investment Authority.

Charles Kazuka, Chief Human Resources Officer, NMB

Charles Kazuka is the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for NMB which is the largest and bank in Tanzania by total assets and with over 170 branches. It is a listed company on the Dar Es Salaam stock exchange. 

Charles has extensive Human Resources experience having spent 14 years in Senior HR leadership roles in both in Tanzania and other international assignments.

Prior to joining NMB, Charles has   headed HR for Barclays Bank in Tanzania and also Barclays in Ghana.  He has also worked with British Petroleum (BP) as Head of Human Resources for Tanzania before expanding this scope to cover East and Southern Africa (Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia)

 A certified HR Analyst, Charles is an honorary alumni of Makerere University and the University of Leicester in the UK where he pursued an MBA in Strategic HR Management.

With this unique experience, Charles brings invaluable strategic HR expertise at the highest level and  is a widely respected HR professional and a well-known life coach and mentor to upcoming HR and business executives in Tanzania.

Bancy Gakuru, Head of Talent Management (Africa &Middle East), Syngenta

Bancy has over 10 years of HR experience across 4 industries (institutional, manufacturing, IT and Agriculture) at both Pan African and international environments. She has held senior HR positions as follows: Head of HR – Mabati Rolling Mills, Chief Talent Officer – Seven Seas Technologies and is now Head of Talent Management for Africa and Middle East at Syngenta overseeing Talent Management.

In 2011, Bancy received recognition by Business Daily as top40under40 women professionals in Kenya. She is agile and has been successful in developing HR strategies that are aligned to the different businesses across the different industries.

Bancy holds a Masters degree in HR from Nairobi University, she is also a Harvard Business School Alumni and a member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (K). She is passionate about talent and capability development.
